Johnnie J AI Krew
As a blind artist, I grew up on classic rock and R&B, drawing inspiration from the sounds that shaped a generation.
One of my most memorable teenage experiences was going to a Prince concert at the Rainbow Theater in 1979. Tickets were just $10, and I sat in the third row with my popcorn and pop - I've never been a drinker. At the time, my vision was 20/200, but music gave me sight beyond sight.
I began collecting guitars as a teen and eventually owned six, but it wasn't until I was twenty-one, after moving to California to pursue radio, that I really learned to play. My roommate was my junior-high friend Wayne, a keyboard player working on his first Gospel LP, Rocking in Jesus. Together, we collaborated on creative projects, including my college film, "Even Me the Movie" - a groundbreaking project featuring disabled actors. Wayne composed the score, and the film can still be found on YouTube.
In the years that followed, I co-founded Innervision, a nonprofit that teaches blind and physically challenged artists the business side of music and podcasting while promoting their creative work. Our mission is to give disabled musicians and broadcasters the tools to build careers in an industry that often overlooks them.
Today, I write and record music under Johnnie J AI Krew, blending rock, hip-hop, and soul into songs that reflect my personal journey, my faith, and the stories of people I know. My catalog includes thought-provoking tracks like Fight Not Flesh and Lost Innocence, and I often write pieces that mix social justice themes with raw emotion.
With today's technology, the sky has no limits - and I continue to push those boundaries, using AI tools, live podcasting, and independent distribution to share my art with the world.
